OH MY GOD HE DOES HAVE A TELESCOPE

Yes, it is true, Yuri has a telescope... and it was pointing towards the docks. I am wondering if that was put there for my benefit. Should I be concerned? What have I gotten myself into???

Aside from that, the hockey game was good, even though we tied... nice seats!!!... and the post-game/Seinfeld/tea chat was interesting as well.

Unceremoniously...

kicked off the Tourism Vancouver e-mail system. Went online last night to check if there was any new TVan e-mail for me - of course there wouldn't be, but I like keeping up with - heheh - what's new. Like all the 'Brochure Updates' and 'Whistler info' and 'Things to do for Valentine's Day.' Anyway, I tried logging in and got DENIED. So I guess that is it for that!

At least that is one e-mail address I don't have to worry about anymore.

Comments regarding this weekend's Year of Teresa party:

First of all, Lena... I did not 'stagger' in from Voda... I think someone was exaggerating just a little for dramatic effect. When I think of 'staggering' into a room, I imagine there would be some porcelain bowling happening not long afterwards... and nope, that wasn't me!! I also didn't lose any contact lenses or make any faces - so nyah nyah.

Slowly, though, my memory is coming back to me on this whole party thing... Brit wishing me Happy Birthday every ten minutes... talking to all sorts of people whose names I can't remember any more... I distinctly remember making a ton of margaritas... and yelling at Jason for unfolding all the little question cards. I put the final count around 40 people, which I attribute not to my personal popularity, but to the fact that the party was in a central location, not to mention a cool space to begin with. Dan Lerer brought half of his boy posse, who I'm guessing he hasn't seen much of since his "20-month" hiatus from people in general (courtesy psycho-ex)...

I remember constantly forgetting to make Junko a pitcher of virgin margaritas... but soon that will not matter since she should be off her meds soon (I hope!). I have a lot of leftover tequila, so we'll have to have a mini margarita get-together soon.

Eleanor thinks she made a fool of herself at the party - she was quite gooned. I reserve judgement on that one.

I also remember my ghastly speech... in which I think I just thanked everyone for coming by... and then hearing Unicorning Tony yell "Take it off!" in the background... nice.

It's a good thing I didn't play pool... Michelle and Courtney monopolized the table, and had no shortage of male opponents.

The only pictures that came of it were from Victor, but they are on his digital camera; and Eleanor, who only took a couple pictures. Yet more pictures you won't see on this site until they are scanned and I decide to purchase web space... or a link to free web space for my pictures.

Victor, LeeAnne, and Michelle Lofting 'represented' for TVan; and Paolo 'represented' for my Tourism Co-op class. Michelle brought her friend (?) Gavin, who sounded like he had a South African accent... but was actually from Zimbabwe.

And that's all I can remember so far.

Another surprise party? Sheesh.

This afternoon we all went to my aunt's 70th birthday party... it was supposed to be a surprise... sort of. Not in the "woo-hoo, surprise!" kind of thing that we did with my mom's 60th, but more along the lines of "well, it's your birthday, and all of your children and grandchildren are going to church with you and then you will have lunch at the Boathouse in New West." It's a lot sweeter than it sounds... Grace flew down from Prince George for the weekend, and Mathew represented his dad as the Pagalilauan heir... My aunt had thought it would be a small lunch with a few of her daughters and friends... but everyone showed up... (damn I have a large family!) It was pretty nice of everyone to show up, too, what with all the excitement of the night before - my party (which none of my family went to) and the Guys Night Out in Maple Ridge thingee that upstaged my party... wherever everyone had gone the night before, at least they weren't too hungover to endure a three-hour lunch. (Luckily, no speeches!) (Although a lot of posing for pictures!)

Another observation: Sunday brunch. That is one activity I could get into, now that I have weekends off. All I have to do is find brunchy people to do it with.

Was supposed to go for Vietnamese Won Ton Soup this afternoon... the family lunch went over so it was kind of moot to go... will have to go again soon! Any takers?

I think Yuri is a spy

That would sure explain a lot, wouldn't it? All those trips to "Fort McMurray"... the loft with the view of the port (I didn't see a telescope, but maybe that's up on the deck)... the "Restricted ID" that shows up on my call display. And all that globetrotting before he settled in Vancouver?? The Russian name??? Hmm. Makes you wonder. The A&W thing must be a cover-up. Doesn't CSIS have their 'secret' headquarters in Saskatchewan somewhere?

Hee hee.

Oh yeah, my birthday party...

I can't speak for everyone but I had a great time! Although I was a little frustrated with a little unpreparedness on my part at the beginning... it went off pretty well. Lots of food & alcohol, and of course all those little question cards! Props to Lena and Junko for providing the 'atmosphere' by lighting all the candles and turning the house lights down. I spent a lot of time at the 'margarita station' and well, that was a pretty good time. I'm surprised at all the people who showed up, who also seemed like they had a good time.

I'm also impressed with the gifts that I got - mostly cards and flowers which I quite enjoy... not to mention the $20 from Blaine for my 'Digital Camera Fund'... Junko's towel ("Brown Eyed Girl" - even though I don't have brown eyes!!)... Brit's SPAZ cake (yum)... AND AND AND bath bombs from Skoah Spa... with a Spa Day gift certificate attached!!!

Have I mentioned that I love my friends?

YYYYY

PS. Yuri if you've read the spy remark, I'm just kidding... maybe... ;)

Blue Sweaters and Salmon Dinners

or, alternatively, MY PARTY IS TODAY!!

Don't know why I'm blogging when I really should be at Costco in a line-up... but anyway. Last night at Jason's house was fun, if not tiring. Tanya made some very interesting prawns last night... considering that I don't normally eat prawns (trying new food this year)... this exposure to it was... well... it tasted like wieners! Is it not supposed to taste like that? Tanya and Michelle attributed it to the bacon (bacon??) in the butter sauce. Eventually she cooked up another batch (just garlic and butter) and they were much better this time. Oh, the pasta was good too.

We watched Sex and the City (re-run) until Jason came home from the Canucks-Redwings game (we lost!)... and basically crashed after that. No Big 2, no crazy drunkenness, we did get a litte weirded out by Mondo Topless on Bravo and ended up watching HGTV for two hours. That's kinda sad! But I guess we have to save our energy for tonight...

hee hee hee hee hee.

Wires

Have you looked at the back of your computer lately? A couple of days ago I had a problem with an inter-office connection... couldn't get my rez. program to work... finally after re-booting a few times and calling out Judy to have a look at it, she figured out that the wires in the back were loose. Weird, I thought, because the internet worked fine! I guess it is an inter-office thing, not going to an internet server... but anyway, same problem happened today and I looked at the back of my computer...

What an utterly preposterous thing to find wires and cables sticking out the back from every which angle - it's hard to tell what from what! and then there are the ones that have double-purpose and connections... they are all loose!!! WTF!!

Anyway boss is gone for the day... I really have nothing to do except look busy. Shh.

(Actually that is not true. I am procrastinating a call and doing, um, research.)

p.s. my computer at home has 2 cables: printer and power. Well, three if you count the internet connection. D'oh.

Alcohol is damn expensive!

This had better be one damn good party! I just bought the tequila and the triple sec for the margaritas. I am going to be experimenting with frozen concentrated limeade and see how that works out. The rest of the margaritas are going to be strawberry... and those don't come cheap either!! Sheesh. Like I said, this had better be good!

I still have a trip to Costco, and am hemming about getting a skirt from Mexx I had my eye on... well, that's what Saturdays are for! Busy busy busy!!

Glad to hear you are alive and well in JP, Fri... don't know what's up with the keyboard but I noticed Junko was doing that a lot with her e-mails from Japan as well. It's kind of cool, like a new way of abbreviating things. Hee hee.

Birthday was good. Although I am concerned about the lack of things that should come wrapped. But that's only nitpicking... it's my birthday ALL WEEK so not to worry!

Happy Birthday to Me...

I can't believe I had to announce to my boss it was my birthday. He said it took the company 13 years for them to figure out when his birthday was. Ha Ha. But I think that is because he does not want the attention.

I have received two cards so far - one from my mom and one from Scott in HFX... both of them... pink... Oh yes, I also got an e-card from Paul Gill that was Mexican themed. Fitting, I thought. Plus two phone calls, 4 instant messages, and two e-mails... and it is only 2 PM! Yes!

Happy Birthday Bob

Fri's dad is 82 today. He shares the same birthday as my dad and grandfather. I hope he has a good one!

I am in an unusually good mood today, even though I am lacking sleep. I think the good mood and the lack of sleep can be attributed to an unusually activity-filled weekend! Shopping in Seattle was good, even though I didn't spend as much as I'd expected to. Still, the leftover U$D will be handy when we go to town on Feb. 13th for the David Gray concert. I'm not driving! I called it!

Anyway, back to work for me...

and you do what here?

a typical day at the office for Teresa... in no particular order (some items may repeat more than once):

:: check e-mail
:: check Messenger
:: work on quotations
:: answer e-mail
:: answer inquiries
:: answer Messenger
:: work on reservations
:: fax quotations
:: fax reservations
:: chase paper
:: forget that my tea has gone cold
:: smell coffee with envy

today I learned 2 new things: where the rates are located (phew! because I thought I was just pulling these numbers out of thin air!) AND that any time I take to go to out-of-office/afternoon/weekend meetings can be banked and expensed. cool. i was also invited to my very first networking meeting at, of all places, Tourism Vancouver. have yet to RSVP, but that should be pretty interesting. will have to chalk up on my schmooze skills. what was it they want me to do? oh yeah. i'm thinking i need business cards first. still, v. cool.

A note ("to follow so!")... Sorry, musical lapse. A note to all five (count 'em) people who read this weblog... you should check out Fri's website. Like seriously - her life is much more interesting than mine is right now. What with being in China and all - ha ha. Look for the 'Only in China' link to pictures. I laughed my ass off at the 'homework' picture. The fire hydrant is good, too... has a very cool artistic quality.

Okay okay, no name tags... but Jiffy Markers will be needed for all the plastic cups. Don't know who is manning the bar... everyone? I'll probably do double duty as host and drunk ass birthday girl. Hee hee!

Sun Run is April 13... pretty good timing. When you're staying at my place I might even let you drive my car... oooh! What good is staying with friends if you can't mooch off them? That's all I'm saying :P

Blogified

Tony pointed out that I should tell people that if they're not drinking margaritas, they ought to BYOB. Now, how do you say that tactfully in an invitation without sounding like a cheapass? I keep finding little knick-knacky things I want to use at the party... like drink-holders and stuff from Ikea. Should people be wearing nametags? I've noticed that no one is as excited about this as I am. Like wow, people like me enough to come to my birthday party. I am impressed. Or I'm really that good at self-promotion. Or everyone's in it for the free margaritas - boy do they have another think coming.

(Is it 'think' or 'thing'?? I never know. I'd always thought it was 'thing')

Thinking of going to Seattle this weekend with Junko. Not sure if it's a day-thing or if we'll stay overnight. Me, since I am driving, would rather spend the night... Doing an online search. Man, those sales websites for hotels are really slow in getting back to me. Hmph. I refuse to book with Expedia right now because... well I don't want to put it on my c/c, that's why. Saving the space on that for the mini-Euro trip. I watched Rick Steve's Europe today... now I want to go to Berlin!! But I guess I can wait for 2006...

FRI!!!

Hey Fri, when you read this post, take the advice!!

Be careful when you are putting down links on this page... I caught an error in your last post (1/8/03) with a link you tried to put in and I can't change it because of a misplaced '>' ... even if I press 'edit' it won't recognize the link... I copied and pasted the error to Front Page and discovered the link to your domain, as well as extra typing you'd written about buying a digital camera!! Well, I can't fix it!!! Arrgghh!!

I think 5 bottles of tequila will be enough for this party. The big ones. Will have to consult Niko about the beer.

Started Sun Run training. If ever I had a resolution this year, it would be to enjoy running. Right now it is a pain in the @$$.

99 bottles of...

I am wondering how many bottles of Tequila I should be getting for this party. I guess I will have to go to the liquor store and figure it out. What about sticking with the Mexican theme and getting a case of Coronas? Do you think 10 pitchers of margaritas will be enough? Anyone want to make like Phoebe and be in charge of cups and ice? Update on numbers: my lame ass cousin Mimi had decided to put together her annual Guys Night Out for the male cousins on the same day as my party. Boo.

Lena I know how you feel about the paper. I still have a couple boxes in my room that are collecting dust when really, they should have been recycled a long long time ago. And those aren't even the boxes of papers I'm saving!! I think I should add to my list of objectives to get rid of what I don't need, and not accumulate too much stuff. But then those are over-arching things that cover all sorts of facets of my life, right? Hee hee! Maybe you could use all the scrap paper to perfect what the Terra Incognita logo is going to look like. Is it a hand? Is it a tree?

Other than that, life is good.

Addendum

Fri's domain: flyingpear.com Is this the same as her weblog? You bet. Does the weblog link still work? Wait and see.

Ooh, chinese fresh fruit cake... my favourite. Can't wait. Do they go with margaritas? Cake goes with everything, what was I thinking?? Ha ha. 2 more weeks kids!!

Casual observation: when you meet new people, do they ever remind you of other people you can compare them to? I had this revelation today. Of the several new people I've met this year, most of them all remind me of other people I've met before, in one way or another. Like this person is a mix of Person A and Person B's personalities and kinda looks like Person C. It's rare to meet someone who doesn't remind you of anyone else you know, you know? Well maybe I'm just rambling. But I got re-acquainted with a rarity last night (Thursday) - that was pretty cool.

maybe I should just get a scanner

They are cheaper than digital cameras. I can scan my existing pictures. Wow, I am just going to accumulate a whole lot of stuff this year. No!!!!! That is not a good way to start off the new year... nor is having a bad mood (or PMS). I have decided that I'm not going to make any new year's resolutions. Because they are quite useless if you ask me. I have goals and objectives, but of course being the natural procrastinator that I am, assigning dates to them are not my thing.

New Years Eve was low-key. PPV Hockey and video games for the couples. After midnight Junko and I hit Robson to catch all the action... of which there was none... just a lot of ESL students. We made our way to the Granville St. Bridge where we had a hell of a time trying to light our sparkler... but finally that worked out. You can say it once, you can say it twice, but apparently it is the Year of Teresa, so I hope all the wishes on that sparkler didn't go down with it into False Creek. (oh, the irony...)

New Years Day was a riot. Not as much family as we're used to... and we had a ton of leftovers. I think it was because people came on time, and not too early, not too late. We have a good quarter of an Asian fresh fruit cake left, complete with whipped cream and everything... that honestly, I can't eat myself. Any takers? Before we have to regrettably chuck it?

My Birthday: working on the invitation. So far the details are that it's on Jan. 25, Saturday, around 7:30-ish (read: 8:00); at The Lions lower level lobby multi purpose facility, with media room and pool tables. Good times - margaritas and chicken wings. Oh yeah, until about 11, by which people ought to be heading elsewhere. There will probably be a reservation at Voda, so dress nice.
